Why join the big ring?

In the coming weeks and months we will be putting together a functional, cycling-specific website, and we reckon you will want to be a part of it! With more ideas than you could shake a shaved Atomic Kitten at, we're sure to have something that will get you interested.

The following website functions will be coming online in the next few weeks:

Coming soon: Create your own website

This will allow you to have your own big ring domain eg: http://ak.thebigring.com.au, where you will be able to customise the look of the site. It will be your very own place on the Internet, with all the big ring functions available to your right away. One feature that will stand out from the rest is you will be able to download all your own content at any time.

Done: Your profile information and visibility

You can now enter information about who you are, and designate who can see this information. This is the first step towards allowing people to create and personalise their own website.

Done: In-page comments

Nothing like communicating with your friends. Even better when they can communicate right back! Logged in people can now leave a comment on any blog entry or news item page. This feature will extend to all other content pages.

Done: Content flagging

Just like Facebook only better! Ever wanted to "Dislike" something? Well now you can! Logged in people can flag something nice and quick to let the author know what you think without typing a full-blown comment, or you can do both.

Done: Site news

We're really excited about the site and know there's going to be something for every cyclist by the time we're done. You will be able to subscribe to site news once you've registered. Rest assured, we will never give out your email to anyone, and will keep site news emails to a bare minimum, with plenty of links back to the new site functions so you can quickly and easily check out what's new.

We understand what it means to be busy - not enough time in the day and emails piling up. Very soon, you will be able to unsubscribe from the big ring news emails. Until then, we'll try to keep them to a bare minimum.

Up and running: Blogs

We've used a few blogging apps and reckon they're great. The blogging function of the big ring will tie in to other functions of the website (like race results and climb times) and be very easy to set up and use. If you have used an online forum before, you will be able to use our blogging function immediately.

We're keen to under promise and over deliver, so we're going to leave it at that for now. We'll add to this list as the website grows and evolves. Check back often to see what we're doing next!
